DAVIS, W.Va. – Snow-making equipment at Blackwater Falls State Park in Tucker County is defying the unseasonably warm weather and will make the annual Duct Tape and Cardboard Sled Races possible as scheduled this Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017.

FARMINGTON, W.Va. – Due to repairs to be completed on the Dixon Lake dam, located on the Pedlar Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Monongalia County, the access road to the lake is temporarily closed to vehicular use, according to Steve Rauch, Division of Natural Resources district wildlife biologist.

MULLENS, W.Va. – Beginning Jan. 20, you can charge your Tesla and other electric or hybrid vehicles at Twin Falls Resort State Park near Mullens. An opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m., and the public is invited. A Tesla will be onsite to demonstrate how an electric vehicle (EV) charging station works. The charging station is located at the upper parking area at the park lodge.

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Preliminary counts indicate West Virginia hunters harvested 112,384 white-tailed deer during the recently completed bucks firearms, antlerless, muzzleloader, archery, crossbow, and youth/Class Q/Class XS deer seasons, according to Paul Johansen, chief of the Division of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Section. This year’s total harvest was 19 percent below the 2015 deer harvest of 138,493 and 15 percent below the five-year average of 132,466.

PIPESTEM, W.Va. – Pipestem Resort State Park is offering a three-day lifeguard training course Jan. 20 - 22, 2017. The classes will be conducted in the McKeever Lodge indoor pool. Class times will be held 5:30 - 10 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday; and conclude at 7 p.m. Sunday. The class is limited to 15-20 individuals. Preregistration is required. The course cost of $200 per person includes classes and materials. Overnight accommodation is available at McKeever Lodge or state park cabins.
